Romper suits - December 2013 and July 2014

Towards the end of 2013 I was asked by a colleague if I would make a personalised romper suit for one of her grandsons.

This hooded suit, to fit age 9-12 months, was made using Stylecraft Special Double Knit 100% premium acrylic yarn in black on 3.25mm and 4mm needles. The legs were worked as two pieces to the crotch where the work was joined and the body worked in one piece to the sleeves. Here the work was split and stitches cast on for the sleeves.

The top of the back and front sleeve pieces were joined using a three needle cast off.

The hood was worked by picking up stitches around the neck and working to the top of the head, with mid-row decreases before the finished length to shape the back of the hood. The top of head seam was worked using a three needle cast off.

The cuffs were worked by picking up stitches around the bottom of the sleeves and then the underarm sleeve seams were sewn. The leg seams were then sewn, and the buttons sewn on the integral front bands.

The main work was worked in rib and stocking stitch, the front bands in garter stitch.

The initials were embroidered after making up, using a gold coloured acrylic yarn. Two horizontal straight stitches were worked over each stocking stitch stitch.

My colleague then asked to make a smaller suit, to fit up to 6 months, for another grandson, this time in white and navy blue. The same brand of yarn and method of construction was used.

I will be starting the 9-12 months in navy blue and white shortly, this time with initials.

There is no pattern for this romper suit.
